Supporters

Safe standing can only be a success at Bramall Lane if it has support across our fanbase. We’re grateful to supporters of the Stand United campaign for backing the call for safe standing to be introduced by Sheffield United.

Many football clubs are now either trialing safe standing or have fully implemented safe standing with a postive response from fans. Safe standing can increase atmosphere, fan engagement to build the atmosphere within a stadium, better use of space, & affordability for fans.
— James Laley, Rainbow Blades
Safe standing is a winner for all supporters - allowing those who wish to stand the ability to do so, and those who wish to sit able to enjoy a game without being obstructed. It’s a winner all round for supporters.
— Committee for the official Sheffield United Supporters Club
Travelling Blades fans have experienced safe standing at Premier League grounds, from Liverpool to Spurs. Many of them, myself included, wonder: why Sheffield United is late to the party? Put simply, safe standing makes for a better, safer and more enjoyable matchday. The only thing holding us back is excuses.
— Sam Parry, editor of DEM Blades and The Pinch
Safe standing is a game changer, I’ve personally experienced it at a few stadiums in Europe and it greatly improved the atmosphere, it was far more comfortable for me and I had a fantastic view. Standing has a reputation for being bad if you’re short, I’m far from tall and with the design of safe standing you actually have a great view, unobstructed by taller people in front of you. I really feel like safe standing would be hugely popular at the Lane. The seats on the Kop are packed in fairly tight with little leg room and this safe standing option, for those able and who want it, would be a positive step forward. The existing safe standing stadiums/stands have proven its safety.

Personally for me, one of my earliest memories as a Blade was standing at Roker Park, Sunderland, so it brings back fantastic memories for me and I’m sure it will of others of a certain age. I am a 6ft 2 man and it can be very uncomfortable at games for me as the seats are packed in with little legroom, especially when I am surrounded by people of a similar stature. Also, the world is changing and trying to be more health conscious, so standing for 90 minutes rather than sitting, would be a positive for a lot of people. Bramall Lane has a great atmosphere but I genuinely think we can make it even better with safe standing being introduced.
— Nick Wylie, co-host of the Sheff United Way
As a supporter of the LA Galaxy in MLS, we have had safe standing in the Victoria Block supporters section where I have my season ticket since 2020. Not only has the safe standing section worked perfectly from a public health and safety perspective, it’s helped generate the atmosphere the club has desired from the organized supporters groups. The Red Half of Sheffield full throatily endorses safe standing implementation for the KOP stand.
— Noah Snyder, co-host of the Red Half of Sheffield
